Filming In Washington, D.C.

With Washington, D.C. being the capital of the United States, the District has been a part of many productions. Offering landmarks and museums like the White House, the Lincoln Memorial and the Smithsonian to mention a few, the capital has a lot of unique sites. Combined with diverse neighbourhoods filled with murals and parks, Washington, D.C. is a great location.

When shooting in Wachington, D.C. you should get in contact with the DC Office of Motion Picture & Development. The DC Film Office manages permits, logistics and inter-agency coordination in the capital, and they are willing to offer their support and guide when you are shooting in the District.

Film Insurance Requirements in the State of
Washington, D.C.

All film productions shooting in public space controlled by the city government are required to provide this office a copy of their certificate of liability insurance for $1M per occurence.

Student filmmakers should consult with their instructors or faculty at the school he or she attends. Students do need to provide liability insurance coverage just as any other production; however in some cases, the school may make some arrangements on the student's behalf. Again, please ask your school -- the D.C. film office will not know how to answer a school-related question.

All insurance documents MUST indemnify the District of Columbia, and name the following legal entity as additional insured on the document.
